Scope of Work

The project was commissioned for the façade modernization and architectural redesign of a residential building located in Karabük, developed on a 4,000 m² plot owned by Taşyapı. The building consists of 10 floors and 2 basement levels, with an approximate footprint of 640 m². As the project had already received municipal approval, the existing floor plans and structural layout were preserved. The design approach therefore focused solely on redefining the architectural expression through façade intervention.

The original design presented a large rectangular mass measuring 27.8 by 23.1 meters, resulting in a visually heavy and monolithic appearance. Although decorative insulation elements and color variations had been previously introduced, the scale and height of the building continued to create a rigid and bulky perception. The design strategy aimed to visually reduce the mass and achieve a more refined and contemporary architectural expression. The building was reinterpreted as two inversely symmetrical volumes rather than a single massive block. This approach created the perception of two separate buildings from different viewpoints, generating a visual illusion that reduced the apparent scale and introduced a lighter architectural character. A simplified and clearer façade language was adopted to eliminate visual complexity while maintaining architectural identity.

This simplicity was balanced through staggered window compositions and carefully integrated sun-shading elements, introducing rhythm and movement across the façade. The concept was further reinforced at roof level by dividing the mass into two pitched roof forms, strengthening the perception of two adjacent buildings and enhancing the overall proportion and urban presence of the structure.

In addition to the façade redesign, the landscape design of the residence was also developed as part of the project scope. Responding to the client’s request for a beach-inspired social environment, the outdoor areas were organized around a pool designed with a coastal atmosphere, including sand-based sunbathing areas integrated with surrounding green spaces. Supporting social functions such as a bar positioned beneath the landscaped areas, along with fitness and spa facilities embedded within the naturally stepped terrain, were introduced to create a layered recreational environment. This approach aimed to extend the architectural concept into the outdoor spaces, establishing a cohesive living experience between the building and its landscape.
