Scope of Work
The project was commissioned for the façade modernization of a residential building located in the 100th Year District of Karabük, developed by Yıldırım İnşaat. The building consists of four standard floors and one attic level. As the project had already received municipal approval, the existing floor plans and overall mass configuration were preserved, limiting the intervention to the architectural façade.
Due to its prominent location along the Karabük–Kastamonu main road, the client requested a more distinctive and contemporary façade identity. Following preliminary sketches and contextual analysis, a cost-conscious yet visually impactful design strategy was developed in response to both the client’s economic expectations and the building’s urban visibility.
The façade was redefined through a system of minimal yet expressive volumetric articulations. Cubic projections were introduced in a staggered arrangement between floors, aligned with the structural grid of the dormitory room axes. This checkerboard-like composition generated rhythm and depth while maintaining construction efficiency.
These protruding elements were clad in wood-textured aluminum compact laminate panels, creating warmth and contrast against the primary façade surface. The base color of the building was defined in anthracite — at the time representing the first and only façade application of this color approach within the local architectural context. Following this application, darker façade palettes, including black and anthracite tones, began appearing more frequently in subsequent developments in the area.
The overall design aimed to achieve a contemporary architectural identity through restrained interventions, demonstrating how minimal façade strategies can significantly transform urban perception without altering the approved structure.
